Lay summary
Immunisation and cancer screening coverage for Pacific peoples is often overestimated, leading to under-delivery of services due to inaccurate data collection and poor coordination across programmes. Our team will re-analyse national public health data using a consistent population denominator to more accurately identify coverage gaps, particularly for Pacific subgroups. We will also explore how policies and delivery systems can better support equitable access. Working with Pacific general practice staff and service users, we will co-design and test a new intervention in primary care, aimed at improving coverage for a high-risk Pacific subgroup identified through this analysis. To support national change, results will be shared with health providers and policymakers. This project offers long-term value by enabling targeted, culturally responsive services that reduce health inequities. Overall, this research will generate clearer insight into equity gaps and support improved programme delivery for all currently underserved Pacific communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
