Lay summary
The research seeks to develop a Fijian Health Model to address Fijian peoples health in Aotearoa New Zealand. The study will engage with Fijian community members and health providers to identify a model of health that reflects their experiences. The study will utilise the Fijian Research Value System (FRVS) to frame methodological and research design processes. Within this framing the Talanoa Participatory Action Research methodology (TPAR) will be employed. TPAR will be carried out in four phases and include Veiwekani (Phase 1) or relationship building activities, Veivosaki yaga Talanoa (Phase 2), Rai lesu (Phase 3) or reflection, analysis and model development and Veitokoni (Phase 4), reciprocity, dissemination and support. The development of the model will address gaps in ethnic specific Pacific approaches in Aotearoa New Zealand.
