Lay summary
We are planning a programme of research to develop or adapt a programme of support and self-management for people in Aotearoa New Zealand (AoNZ) who have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture and are at risk of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) of the knee. This application represents phase 3 of this work, where we aim to establish a 'community of practice' (CoP) that will come together and partner in co-creating a life-span approach to managing PTOA following ACL injury. We will construct the CoP with network-building workshops, which will leverage important findings from phase 1 (patients lived experience) and phase 2 (stakeholder, funder and provider experience) and explore current management to co-create a bespoke AoNZ-specific, life-span management approach to reduce the impact of ACL injury and PTOA. We intend to apply to HRC to fund phase 4 of this work, including codesign, testing, and implementing the new, contemporary approach.
