Lay summary
Dietary habits and food preferences are developed through early childhood and adolescence, thus maintaining good nutrition and a strong sense of wellbeing are imperative from a young age. Adolescents in Aotearoa are currently underserved in their support for nutrition and wellbeing. Rangatahi-developed guidelines will breach the gap between the policy-developed guidelines created by health professionals and the intended population group expected to enact the guidelines.
Eighteen rangatahi from various high schools in Hawke’s Bay participated in a week-long noho at a Hawke’s Bay marae to create and develop rangatahi-focused nutrition and wellbeing guidelines, and a dissemination plan that will resonate and reach our rangatahi in Aotearoa. Effective dissemination for this population group (as determined by the rangatahi themselves) includes the provision of hoodies with logos/QR codes and the use of prominent Māori social media influencers.
