Lay summary
Upper gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, reflux, dyspepsia, early satiety, and abdominal pain are highly prevalent in the general population. Despite >30% of the population being afflicted by these symptoms, defining, diagnosing, and managing these disorders has been a longstanding clinical challenge. Current diagnostic tools are inadequate, non-specific, and do not inform care. A digital health platform integrating body surface gastric mapping (gastric electrophysiology), patient-reported symptoms, quality of life, and health psychometrics, is poised to advance the diagnosis of these disorders and direct therapies through actionable biomarkers. This PhD project aims to advance the development of this platform and validate its utility in clinical settings.
