Lay summary
Community responses to cardiac arrest, such as the provision of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation, unequivocally improve survival. The goal of our research is to empower communities to improve their response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In 2022, we will submit an HRC Health Delivery Project proposal to implement a pilot model of Kaiāwhina Hauora Hapori (Community Health Helpers) in Kaikohe in the Far North District. Based on the principles of the Sir Mason Durie model of Te Pae Māhutonga, the Health Delivery Project would engage and cultivate community networks in Kaikohe to lead and co-design the pilot model. This Activation Grant will lay the groundwork of whakawhanaungatanga, capacity building and project development for the Health Delivery Project proposal. The work supported by this Activation Grant would lay the foundation for community engagement required for the Health Delivery Project proposal.
