Lay summary
The New Zealand Health Research Strategy 2017-2027 communicates a vision for Aotearoa to become a world-leading hub of health research and innovation. Within this strategy, district health boards (DHBs) are stipulated to play a significant role in enabling innovative healthcare solutions. However, at Auckland DHB, we have not explored what is needed from an innovation service. Innovation is critically important as it creates new products, services and models of care that improve equity and accessibility to exceptional health outcomes for all. We know that innovation doesn’t happen in isolated silos. It needs to be interdisciplinary and have a thriving ecosystem. Our current systems do not support these requirements. This project will apply the human-centred design methodology to uncover the enablers of innovation within Auckland Hospital. It will bring together the different sectors of the New Zealand health innovation ecosystem to collaboratively prototype service design solutions to understand what is needed for all stakeholders.
