Lay summary
The Cook Islands Ministry of Health have identified the importance early-life nutrition in support of primary NCD risk reduction. This study will explore associations between early-life environmental exposures and indicators of NCD risk at adolescence. Additionally, there is a focus on knowledge translation to enable community-led action with regard to the impact of the early-life environment on later health. The Ministry has identified that the 'Nurturing Future Health Through Nutrition' resource, currently available to mothers in NZ, could be beneficial as a health promotion tool for the Cook Islands if it were to be culturally adapted and translated. Via stakeholder consultation, I am undertaking this work which will include research to ascertain public perceptions of life course NCD risk before and after distribution.
