International accolade for top health researcher

The HRC would like to congratulate HRC Board member Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Porou), who has been made a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association for her contribution to educational research, especially in relation to indigenous education.

Professor Tuhiwai Smith and her husband, Distinguished Professor Graham Hingangaroa Smith, who was also made a fellow, are the only New Zealanders on a list of 22 international scholars to be inducted into the 2014 class of the research association.

The new fellows will be inducted in early April during the association's 2014 annual meeting in Philadelphia, US.

Professor Tuhiwai Smith is the Pro Vice-Chancellor Māori at the University of Waikato in Hamilton. She is an internationally renowned Professor of Education with a professional background in Māori and indigenous education.
