Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith, a member of the HRC's Board and chair of the HRC Māori Health Committee, was yesterday named the Mātauranga-Education category winner at the TVNZ Marae Investigates Māori of the Year Awards 2012-Ngā Toa Whakaihuwaka.
"This programme is about celebrating people, groups and organisations who have enhanced mana Māori in 2012 and the calibre of overall nominations was stunning," said Marae Investigates producer Rohihana Nuri.
Associate Professor Susan Stott, a member of the HRC's Board and Ethics Committee, has also been honoured with her promotion to professor at The University of Auckland.
Professor Stott joined the University staff in 1997 after working in the US and completing her PhD at the University of Southern California. She divides her time between the Department of Surgery and Starship Children’s Hospital, where she is a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon and clinical director of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Department.
The HRC Board and Secretariat would like to extend their warmest congratulations to Professor Smith and Professor Stott on their achievements.
