Clinical trials that involve the use of a new medicine require approval under Section 30 of the Medicines Act 1981. The Health Research Council's Standing Committee on Therapeutic Trials (SCOTT) undertakes scientific assessment of applications to conduct trials and makes recommendations to the Director-General of Health on whether or not trials should be approved.
Public submissions are now being called for the draft Terms of Reference for SCOTT.
The closing date for submissions is 11.59pm, Friday 12 July 2024.
The draft Terms of Reference for SCOTT proposes new processes, procedures, and principles for the Committee, including their function to provide recommendations to the Director-General of Health.
