We are pleased to announce that Dr Don Mackie is joining the HRC from 25 July 2016, on a twelve month secondment.
Don joins us from the Ministry of Health where he has held the role of Chief Medical Officer for the past five years. During his time at the Ministry Don made a significant contribution. His knowledge and understanding of health systems in New Zealand and overseas enabled him to contribute to national initiatives such as the Rheumatic Fever Prevention Programme and the Review of Laboratory Errors.
“We are excited to have Don join us and I know that you will join with me in welcoming Don to the HRC team,” says HRC Chief Executive, Professor Kathryn McPherson.
Don's work with the medical profession, through the Chief Medical Officers, Colleges, Medical Council and others has been highly valued by his colleagues. Don has a particularly interest in health research and innovation and is contributing to the New Zealand Health Research Strategy that is currently in public consultation. These interests will continue with Don's work with the HRC.
