The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is re-shaping the International Relationship Fund to allow for a more simplified and streamlined fund that better supports high quality international science collaborations for New Zealand.
The newly designed fund will be called ‘Catalyst Fund: advancing global science partnerships for New Zealand’ and will consist of four funding streams that target investment in leadership, influence, seeding and strategic cooperation. The changes to the fund will result in a more open and flexible approach to supporting international science collaboration.
The re-shaping of the fund follows an independent evaluation, which found the fund was valued but required adjustments to improve its impact.
The four new funding streams will be:
Catalyst: Influence
Catalyst: Leaders
Catalyst: Seeding
Catalyst: Strategic
MBIE runs some Catalyst Fund initiatives through a contestable process. See MBIE’s website for funding opportunities.
A number of Catalyst Fund programmes are also administered by the Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) and the Royal Society of New Zealand, on MBIE's behalf.
