Lay summary
The aim of this project is to assess the impact of diabetes-related lower extremity amputations for Maori in Northland (Te Tai Tokerau). The health impacts of diabetes-related amputations are significant, yet there have been no longitudinal studies in Te Tai Tokerau or New Zealand. The proposed studentship will develop methodologies for retrospective analysis of Ministry of Health data, including a literature review and constructing an appropriate database and analysis system. The outcomes of this research include capacity building for the researcher, and are also anticipated to inform diabetes services and practices at high-risk foot clinics throughout New Zealand.
