This research project aims to investigate how the 'Motivating Rangatahi to become Rangatira for the Future' programme can positively influence the health and wellbeing of Tamariki and Rangatahi. In particular, the social connections and connections to their environment and Tangaroa. To investigate the central question, ""How can Tangaroa nurture the hearts and minds of Tamariki and Rangatahi?' and to reflect the multidimensional nature of wellbeing and health, this research will employ a number of research methods in both longitudinal and cross-sectional design. Te Tai Timu proposes the idea that the values, beliefs and tikanga surrounding Tangaroa can provide an alternative lifestyle to the one that seems to be engaging Kahungunu rangatahi at present.
