Lay summary
Consideration has been given to the extent this research will have on the future of the Maori people regarding health, wealth and welfare. It has the potential to address health issues that are predominant amongst Maori, with diet and nutrition potentially determining the effects of the return of the taurange ika to its former usage and production. The impact of this research will be far-reaching from kohungahunga through to paheke kaumatua: to research tauranga ika and find ways to return to thei roots and turangawaewae to establish their whakapapa. To guide Te Rea Anga Hauora o Parihaka to do this and capture the essence of the research, all aspects of the research will be developed with benefits to the iwi in sight. It will encompass tikanga and kawa to embrace the intent and content of this entire proposal.
