Lay summary
This project asks the question ""how do Maori manage pain and suffering?"" The answers to this question have considerations important for clinicians, important for patients and important also for their families. The aim of this study is to discover how Maori manage the pain experienced not only by their ill whanau member, but especially the pain their families experience as a result of the patient's situation. Our primary focus is to hear what cultural values, spiritual elements, and what tikanga (ways of being Maori) help Maori whanau members to manage pain?
