Lay summary
We will describe trends and current use of primary care by Pacific peoples, and we will seek to understand primary care through the eyes of Pacific peoples. We will analyse data that is currently collected at national, DHB, PHO and practice level. We will review literature and interview both health system persons and Pacific peoples to aid interpretation of this data. We will interview Pacific people individually and in groups, selected from their known relevant expertise or for their life experiences. Pacific interviewees will be selected to cover gender, age, Pacific ethnicities, localities, use of mainstream or Pacific providers, and people considered by the healthcare system to be 'hard to reach'. We will synthesise these data to make evidence-based recommendations for practice and policy at national, DHB, PHO and practice level.
