Lay summary
To examine specific aspects of the social, food and built environments that can protect against and/or increase risk for being overweight and obese in Pacific families. This study will be undertaken as part of the Pacific Island Families (PIF) longitudinal study. Within this broad framework I plan to investigate factors such as family structure, acculturation, parenting and lifestyle factors, such as church attendance, physical activity and nutrition, amongst Pacific mothers, fathers and children. A primary area of focus will be on environmental factors (social, food and built) that are likely to mould nutritional and physical activity behaviours.
