The overall aim of this research is to explore sustainable papakainga development opportunities within Torere for Ngaitai whanau who live in substandard housing and aspire to improve the health wellbeing of their whanau. This research also aims to better understand papakainga as a contributing factor towards the realisation of Toiora, in order to facilitate positive strengths-based approaches that support sustainable papakainga development. This research will be supported by the Toiora: Conceptualisation and Measurement for Iwi and Maori communities research that Ngaitai Iwi Authority are currently undertaking and will enable the applicant to have the support of a research team, Tohunga Tikanaga advisor and academic supervision.
