The purpose of this application is to enable preparation work for an application in the area of intervention to assist Maori women problem gamblers to disengage from gambling addiction and its consequences. The project will aim to implement and assess the efficacy and meaningfulness of intervention strategies, with an overall goal of improving mental health. This seeding grant will fund an investigation to pull together a team of gambling experts in research, community to strengthen the methodology. The funding will also be used to determine the demographic profile of Te Arawa and Ngati Kahungungu Iwi to ensure it can provide a sufficient and accessible population for the planned study; and to review some aspects of methodology with Kaumatua and Kuia to ensure that it is compatible with Te Arawa and Ngati Kahungungu kaupapa.
