Lay summary
The vision for our study is to develop key communication practices that contribute to Maori health literacy and Kaumatua and whanau experiences of end-of-life planning and care, as well as clinicians' and community workers' delivery of these services. The goal is to advance knowledge that will enhance functional, interpersonal, critical, and cultural health literacy in palliative care of kaumatua Maori aged 50 years and over and their whanau. This goal will be achieved by applying whanau ora principles, utilising a Kaupapa Maori-driven community-based participatory research approach, to explore the experiences of kaumatua, their whanau, and the palliative care workforce, with a particular focus on communication in interactions and in service information media.
