Lay summary
This is a Summer Studentship application and the applicant is a third-year Bachelor of Health Science student at the University of Auckland. The aim of the research study is to analyse Youth '07 survey data looking specifically at the factors related to sports participation and physical activity amongst the Pacific youth. To describe the prevalence of sport participation, and identify barriers to sports participation and physical activity amongst the Pacific cohort sample. To investigate the associations with various demographic variables including age and gender, as well as associations with other relevant variables including sports and total physical activity. The proposed research study provides opportunities for the applicant to be trained in basic research activities in completing meta-analysis (literature review) and analysis of completed quantitative survey data of a Youth '07 Adolescent Health Group, complete a two-page Fact Sheet manuscript for wider public dissemination, and draft a manuscript for publication. The expected outcome is for the applicant to be the lead author in a paper to be submitted for a peer review Medline-based journal. Dr Tasileta Teevale is the supervisor and the study is based at the School of Population Health, the University of Auckland.
