Investigators will consult with a small Maori community that is currently running their own marae-based diabetes programme with the purpose of developing a joint research pilot proposal based on 'Remote Diabetes Care' that will enhance their current community diabetes initiative. A series of hui and wananga will be used to introduce the community to a number of innovative health informatics technologies and programmes that have been successfully developed for other indigenous communities in Hawaii, the Marshall Islands and the US. Practitioners will be able to effectively manage and coordinate appropriate care for patients in a web-based clinical environment.
