Lay summary
Waitemata DHB (WDHB) is concerned that breastfeeding rates are declining amongst Pacific women in their region despite breastfeeding peer support and support and antenatal education provided within the community. Factors that are influencing poor uptake of breastfeeding in this group have been recognised. This research will identify and explore barriers and enablers to breastfeeding for Pacific. This research will be done through focus groups (with young mothers and grandmothers) and interviews with health professionals from West Fono, antenatal services and Plunket.
