Summer Studentships
These awards provide $4,000 to enable a student to train during the summer break with a research team in a health-related field. Half will be paid at the outset and the remaining amount paid when the student's research report and supervisor's progress report are submitted to the HRC. The number of summer studentships available depends on the total number of career awards administered for any year, as set out in the annual HRC Investment Strategy. Duration is usually ten weeks. Application is by letter.
The HRC administers the following awards in this category:
Summer Studentships in Māori Health Research
These awards aim to introduce research to Māori students who have an interest in developing research skills through supervision and guidance from senior health researchers. Students that are interested in these awards may be considering developing careers in research with a focus on improving health outcomes for Māori. This opportunity provides funding to undertake a distinct piece of research by working on a 10-week project over the summer break. Applications are sought from students undertaking health related courses wishing to be involved in improving health outcomes for Māori.
Summer Studentships in Pacific Health Research
These awards aim to introduce research to Pacific students wanting to develop research skills with supervision and guidance from experienced senior researchers. This provides an opportunity to develop a career in health research by working on a 10-week project over the summer break.
Who can apply: Applicants should be of Pacific Islands descent and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Generally applicants are enrolled at an undergraduate level at a New Zealand university
