Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
The Ministry of Research, Science & Technology (MoRST) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 1 June 2005 and subsequent Guidelines for Implementation were adopted by the JSPS and the Health Research Council of New Zealand on 14 April 2006.
The Guidelines for Implementation support:
1. Joint Research Projects – Joint research projects will be carried out jointly by both research teams of both countries. Each team will comprise two or more participating researchers. Each team leader must hold a full-time position at a higher educational institution or research organization in their home country.

2. Joint Seminar/Workshops – Joint seminars or workshops are organized by both research teams of both countries. Each team will comprise two or more participating researchers. Each team leader must hold a full-time position at a higher educational institution or research organization in their home country.

3. Exchange of Scientists and Postdoctoral Fellows – The objective is to support the exchange of visits of New Zealand Scientists to Japan and for Japanese Scientists to New Zealand. The duration of the visits will depend upon the program category. There are two program categories: Scientists and Postdoctoral Fellows.

Collaborations among health and health science researchers under these formats will lay the foundations for establishing cooperative research networks between Japan and New Zealand.
