Product vigilance research has been identified as a key priority for Medsafe and the Health Research Council of New Zealand. The two agencies have established a Joint Initiative to develop capacity for product vigilance research in New Zealand and to support research that explores opportunities for improving the post-market surveillance and monitoring of therapeutic products in New Zealand. This initiative is jointly funded by Medsafe and the HRC, and managed by a Steering Committee which includes representatives of each funding partner and other relevant organisations.
Applications to this fund have now closed.

New Zealand's approach to product vigilance must evolve to keep pace with changing technologies and the international regulatory environment. The proposed programme integrates and extends NZ's product vigilance capability to deliver an interdisciplinary product vigilance research system. The overall aim is to develop a world-class integrated approach to product vigilance to enable timely identification and investigation of potential medicine safety issues of national and international importance.
