Research Investment Streams for the 2011 Annual Funding Round
The HRC has established a new funding framework for its 2011 Annual Funding Round. As part of the new framework, four Research Investment Streams have been introduced:

• Health and Wellbeing in New Zealand (HW): Keeping populations healthy and independent throughout life.

• Improving Outcomes for Acute and Chronic Conditions in New Zealand (IOACC): Improving outcomes for people with illness or injury.

• New Zealand Health Delivery (NZHD): Improving health and disability service delivery outcomes over the short-to-medium term.

• Rangahau Hauora Māori (RHM): Supporting Māori health research that upholds rangatiratanga and utilises and advances Māori
  health knowledge, resources and people.

An Investment Signal has been developed for each Research Investment Stream, along with general guidance on the structure and content of the signals. All Project and Programme applicants for the 2011 round should familiarise themselves with these documents.

Project applicants must specify which Investment Signal their application responds to. Programme applicants may demonstrate contribution to the goals of more than one Research Investment Stream. However, they must specify a primary Investment Signal that their research responds to.

Investment Signals define the scope of the research sought in each stream, along with any particular research characteristics and priorities. They contain all the information used as the basis for assessment of applications.

The Research Investment Streams, together with relevant Investment Signals and assessment processes, replace the HRC's system of relevance scoring, which will no longer be used as part of the assessment process. The HRC's previous framework of nine Research Portfolios will be used by the HRC for the purposes of evaluation only.
