Pacific Peoples Health Expert Panel
The Pacific Peoples Expert Panel is one of five ‘Expert Panels' that inform the HRC policy making process. The Pacific Peoples Health Expert Panel is made up of Pacific people who have significant health research expertise.
The Panel meets at critical stages of the policy process to provide advice, direction and guidance to the HRC. The Expert Panel ensures that Pacific perspectives and issues are incorporated into policy development.
The Expert Panel makes annual Pacific recommendations to the Research Policy Advisory Committee which makes recommendations to the Board. There is Pacific representation at both the Research Policy Advisory Committee level and on the HRC Board.

Pacific Health Research Frameworks
Pacific Relevance criteria have been established by the HRC Pacific Peoples Expert Panel to identify to what extent research aims to produce Pacific health solutions. The criteria can be used as a tool to measure the level of responsiveness of the research to the needs and aspirations of the Pacific population.
Since developing this framework, it has been recognised within the spectrum of Relevance and Governance definitions that another type of Pacific research has emerged: namely “Pacific Partnership” research.

Pacific Health Research Guidelines
In 2003 the HRC developed 'Guidelines on Pacific Health Research' PDF 460KB. The Guidelines are written expressly to guide research funded by the HRC. However, the document may assist all researchers, Pacific and non-Pacific, undertaking research on the health of Pacific peoples. It has been written to assist research with Pacific peoples living in Aotearoa, New Zealand. It focuses specifically on the New Zealand context of Pacific health research.
The Guidelines give instructions about how to conduct research and research relationships that are effectively guided by Pacific ethical principles. The Guidelines document has largely been developed by the HRC ‘Expert Panel for Pacific Peoples Health'.
HRC Pacific Strategy
The Strategic Plan for Pacific Health Research outlines the challenges that face Pacific peoples and the Pacific research community. It provides direction on how the HRC will address these challenges and carve a path for the future to achieve "optimal health" for Pacific peoples. The Plan builds on the principles outlined in the Guidelines for Pacific Health Research.
