Pacific Peoples are considered a priority population for investment across all portfolios (except Rangahau Hauora Maori). Pacific research is funded in all of these portfolios classified according to the appropriate research area
In 2002, the Health and Independence of Population Groups portfolio was revised so that Pacific-led research (i.e. by Pacific, for Pacific) on any topic will be mapped to this portfolio. Research that addresses Pacific health issues and is not Pacific-led will be mapped to the other portfolios, and will also be considered a priority under those strategies.
The HRC is committed to establishing partnerships with organisations that provide new and targeted opportunities for Pacific health research. The most significant Pacific partnership established in 2002 is the International Collaborative Research Grants Scheme.
Seeding Grants and Career Development Awards are also available to provide opportunities for Pacific health research workforce development, as well as the Pacific health provider workforce.
