The Research Policy Advisory Committee (RPAC) was formed in 1998. RPAC advises the Council on research needs and priorities and develops the strategies for the HRC's nine Research Portfolios, managing the policy and consultation processes.
The membership of the Committee is broad, including senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, District Health Boards, health service providers, the Chairs of the HRC's Statutory and Standing Committees (Biomedical, Public Health, Maori Health and Pacific Health), and researchers from each of these disciplines.
RPAC also appoints the Portfolio Advisory Groups that are responsible for developing and reviewing the Research Portfolio strategies and the Expert Panels that advise on research priorities for the priority population groups.
