The Research Policy and Advisory Committee (RPAC) was created to manage the development of the Research Portfolio system and the policy framework. In turn, RPAC created Portfolio Advisory Groups to develop and review the strategy for each Research Portfolio and an Expert Panel for each of the HRC's five priority populations. Together these committees form a matrix that ensures research priorities reflect key health issues for New Zealand and for the priority population groups.
RPAC reviews the nine Research Portfolio Strategies on an annual basis, in order to identify any need for updates or changes. In 2007, at RPAC's request, the Secretariat completed a low-level review of the Research Portfolio Strategies in order to bring them up to date with changes to legislation, and incorporate new national strategies and priorities.
Policy for the research initiatives under the HRC's Partnership Programme is developed by a Steering Committee of stakeholders appointed to manage each of the ventures.
