Evaluation at the HRC
The Purpose of Evaluation at the HRC
Evaluation undertaken by the HRC has two main purposes. These are to:
- Determine the efficacy and effectiveness of policies and programmes; and
- Assess the impact of the HRC's investment in health research.
Evaluation does not include the monitoring or auditing of individual contracts, and any information that is obtained from individuals with regards to their HRC-funded contracts is used collectively with the intention that this information will provide evidence for the impact of HRC-funded research and the improvement of policies and processes.
Information on evaluations undertaken by the HRC are reported in the annual Progress and Achievements Report to the Minister of Research, Science and Technology. Full reports on individual evaluations will also be made available on the website.
Approaches to Evaluation at the HRC
There are many different methodological approaches to evaluation research, and the methodologies employed in HRC evaluations will be dependent on the aim of the evaluation, as well as the policy and/or programme that is being evaluated. As such, evaluations employ both quantitative and qualitative methods for collecting and analysing information.
