Lay summary

It is my vision to further transform Maori social work practice in Aotearoa to incorporate: (1) Realistic pragmatic care that meets basic needs; (2) Rebuilding integenerational collectives (whanau) that take care of one another; (3) Co-construction of the power dynamic; (4) Manaakitanga; (5) Kanohi kitea; (6) a holistic approach to hauora (tinana, hinengaro, wairua, whanau). My model is named the Korimako model because each family of korimako in each particular region have their own song. In my social work practice I want to empower each whanau to sing their own song. It also relates to the whakatauki: Unuhia te rito o te harakeke kei whea te korimako e ko? Whakatairangitia - rere ki uta, rere ki tai; Ui mai koe ki ahau he aha te mea nui o te ao, Maku e ki atu he tangata, he tangata, he tangata!
