Pae Herenga: A kaupapa Māori investigation of whānau end of life care customs

Lay summary

A kaupapa Māori investigation of traditional end of life care customs of Māori whānau living in Auckland using ethnographic and qualitative research techniques. A kaumatua led study in partnership with palliative and end of life care researchers at the University of Auckland. The pilot development phase will: a) assist kaumatua to complete the study design b) prepare the Full Project Grant application. Face-to-face interviews with five whānau carers will explore traditional tribal/whānau care customs to provide useful feedback on the interview schedule and research process to inform a larger study.
