Lay summary

The objective of our project is to understand the causes of Parkinson’s disease from molecular, biochemical and structural perspectives. We aim to achieve our goal by studying how a mutant enzyme called LRRK2, which can be found in up to ~40 per cent of Parkinson’s cases in some ethnic groups, changes the structure, dynamics and function of its substrate, which is a ribosomal protein called s15 that is involved in the assembly of ribosome in translation and protein synthesis.
